The albatross is a creature of legend, poetry and dreams. But today, over three-quarters of albatross species are edging towards extinction. This book is a celebration of these amazing birds, featuring photographs by award-winning wildlife photographer Tui De Roy, the latest research by leading international experts and a factual natural history.

Tui De Roy Tui De Roy was born in Belgium but grew up in the Galapagos Islands, where she honed her early skills as a self-taught naturalist and passionate conservationist. These lifelong interests are reflected in her work as an award-winning nature photographer and writer published in over 30 countries. A founding member of the International League of Conservation Photographers, she has been honoured by the North American Nature Photographers Association with the title Outstanding Photographer of the Year 2005, and generally hailed as one of the giants in environmental photography.

Based in Golden Bay, New Zealand, for the past 15 years, Tui has travelled to all seven continents in search of rare wildlife images. Her quest to photograph the world’s albatrosses has taken her from South Georgia and the Falkland Islands to Tristan da Cunha and New Zealand’s famed Subantarctic World Heritage islands.

Mark Jones Mark Jones left his native England at age 21, and eventually settled in New Zealand after spending more than 10 years in the Galapagos Islands. Beginning as a professional naturalist and diver his abiding interest in the natural world, particularly the sea, led him to a career in freelance wildlife photography and writing. He runs The Roving Tortoise Nature Photography in partnership with Tui De Roy and travels regularly to the Subantarctic.
