Auckland University Press, ISBN 978-1-86940-417-8, $59.99 pbk
Peter Peryer: Photographer is an exciting visual feast containing the largest body of leading contemporary photographer Peter Peryer’s work ever assembled. With images personally selected by the photographer, largely drawn from his innovative practice of the past 10 years, a wide-ranging, thorough introduction to Peryer’s work by Peter Simpson and an autobiographical essay by Peryer, Peter Peryer: Photographer proves a quirky and intimate guide to ‘Peryerland’.
Art editor, curator, critic and scholar Peter Simpson is associate professor in the Department of English at the University of Auckland, specialising New Zealand literature, visual arts and cultural history, modern poetry and postcolonial literatures.
Peter Peryer ONZM is one of our leading contemporary photographers, his name often linked with Laurence Aberhart’s as one of the two pre-eminent practitioners of their generation. Peryer’s importance was recognised very soon after he started photographing in 1974 and he has maintained his reputation ever since.
