A Dog Like That!

Janene Cooper is a Literacy Facilitator working in schools in the Auckland area and gave several manuscripts to colleague Nicky Ling to pass on to her publisher husband.

The manuscript for A Dog Like That! is based on the friendship between Janene’s daughter Danielle and her dog Rannock.

Although the story is dedicated to them, in the book neither the girl nor the dog has a name.

Evie Kemp was in her final year of a Graphic Arts degree at AUT in 2009 when David Ling, in collaboration with department head Peter Gilderdale, set Janene’s text as a class illustration project with the bonus of possible publication.

Evie’s concept work was so exceptional, Ling contracted her immediately.
