Governing the Future by Derek Wallace
Governing the Future, by New Zealand academic, Derek Wallace, published by US publisher Common Ground, explores how New Zealand governments in the second half of the twentieth century tried to secure a consensus on the country’s future development.
There are descriptions of government-funded institutions like the National Development Council of the late 1960s, the Planning Council of the late 70s and 80s, and the Foresight Project of the 1990s. The book also examines the attitudes toward time built into the design of tools for managing the future, such as computer forecasting models and scenarios.
The book is available in both paperback and PDF formats from the publisher’s website.
