Craig Potton Publishing is an independent publishing house based in Nelson, New Zealand. The company was set in 1989 by photographer and conservationist, Craig Potton. It was a move inspired by the success over the previous two years of Images From a Limestone Landscape, his and Andy Dennis's self-published tribute to the remarkable sea coast and forested hinterland around Punakaiki on the South Island's West Coast. Images from a Limestone Landscape was shortlisted in the Goodman Fielder Wattie Book Awards, and proved how rewarding it could be to combine strong photos, text and design with superb production.
Since then, the company has grown steadily, to employ fourteen people, who are not only involved in publishing, but also in the running of a nationwide sales and distribution infrastructure. Our head office is in Nelson, and we have sales representatives in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
Our commitment to producing fine books has been the central thread in the development of Craig Potton Publishing and has played a crucial role in the successes we have enjoyed. We publish fine quality books on a wide range of subjects, including natural history, photography, outdoor recreation, travel, art and culture, social and environmental issues, wine and, more recently, biography. We also produce a range of scenic posters and postcards, and are one of New Zealand's major calendar publishers, producing an expanding range of high quality calendars for the retail and corporate markets.
Other services include Craig Potton's photo library of his outstanding images of New Zealand and the Sub-antarctic Islands, Antarctica, Nepal and South-east Asia. Craig's photographs focus primarily on the natural environment and wildlife, including magnificent images of many of New Zealand's best-known iconic scenes and places.
