Information helps to sell more books

As booksellers already know, it is much easier for them to identify books that will be suitable for their customers if they can see a jacket image and a short description of what the books are all about.

The Power of Two: joining bookstores a business success

Once upon a time, there were two good small specialist bookshops in Nelson. One was Pages, owned by Peter and Ann Rigg who are able to trace the store’s history back to 1910. The other was Blackmore's Booksellers, previously The ABC Bookshop but renamed when Susi and Tim Blackmore bought the business in 1991.

Poppies Feilding: The North Island Thorpe-Bowker Regional Bookseller of the Year is part of a community coping with tragedy.

From sombre candlelit vigil on Friday to cork-popping celebration on Sunday, last weekend was emotional for Poppies Feilding owner Margaret Kouvelis. Feilding has seen a spate of tragedies this year and 2,000 came together for the vigil, held around the town’s clock tower.

Take Note Tawa is the hub of the neighbourhood

Karen and Steve Pettigrew have owned Take Note Tawa for 18 years and three name changes; initially it was Local Value, then Books & More and from 2006, Take Note.

When the Pettigrew’s bought the store, it had a good range of books and that is something they have kept up over time.

Getting a New Zealand Post franchise in 1994 has helped grow the business, as has the subsequent addition of Kiwibank to their services.
