Selling books at the speed of wind at Auckland and Dunedin Writers festivals

One is the new kid on the block – the Dunedin Writers and Readers Festival, held May 6 – 11. The other, Auckland Writers Festival, will host book lovers for the fourteenth time from May 14 – 18. But bright, inventive and appealing author events and programmes are something both Festivals share. 
 

‘Sell the stock you have’ – bookshop veterans pass on their wisdom

Asking long term booksellers for the advice they would give to younger entrants to the book trade, and for counsel they wish they had received earlier in their careers, was the brief for today’s feature story.

The Read spoke to three booksellers who have made their careers in the industry over a combined total of around 90 working years!

“UBS Otago - my favourite bookshop as a student,” mused Booksellers web editor Emma McCleary when this store profile was planned.

“They used to run a permanent sale room upstairs but I don't know if they still do? That was a student's dream!”
