Geraldine Books and Post: magazines, books, services… and mating sheep!

How many booksellers do you know whose other business is a Perendale Stud? Geraldine Books and Post owners Jo Dolan and Phil Oldfield took over the store earlier this year, as well as continuing with Oldendale which breeds the hardy sheep with characteristic white wool fleece.
They bought the business off Graham and Anne Duggan back in May, and Jo Dolan has been on a steep learning curve ever since.

2010 Ceremony: an affair with flair and the warmth of community

New Zealand Post Children’s Book Awards Ceremony 2010

Fluffy clouds and high flying pastel balloons as table centrepieces set the ‘power of the imagination’ theme for this year’s New Zealand Post Children’s Book Awards 2010. It was an elegant setting with guests sitting around tables, but as always the warmth of the children’s literature community gave the event a friendly atmosphere.

Take Note Tawa is the hub of the neighbourhood

Karen and Steve Pettigrew have owned Take Note Tawa for 18 years and three name changes; initially it was Local Value, then Books & More and from 2006, Take Note.

When the Pettigrew’s bought the store, it had a good range of books and that is something they have kept up over time.

Getting a New Zealand Post franchise in 1994 has helped grow the business, as has the subsequent addition of Kiwibank to their services.
