Booksellers Board Chair Juliet Blyth to head Read NZ Te Pou Muramura

The staff and board of Booksellers NZ wish to congratulate current Chair Juliet Blyth for her appointment as new Chief Executive of Read NZ Te Pou Muramura.

The announcement was made yesterday by Read NZ Chair Peter Biggs. He said of Juliet:

“The Board was seeking a proven leader – someone who ‘gets’ readers and books; who knows how to engage audiences and stakeholders; who has shown that they can grow an organisation/business revenue-wise; who is connected and respected – particularly within and by the literary sector; who is deeply committed to the purpose of Read NZ – to make Aotearoa New Zealand a better place by inspiring more Kiwis to read more often; who can do the nuts and bolts of management – especially financial management; who burns with a deep desire to make Read NZ successful – and can innovate and make things happen; and who can nurture and inspire a team to achieve.”

Juliet will be leaving her role as General Manager of Vic Books in February, after 20 years with the company but will remain as Chair of Booksellers NZ until the end of her term in August 2020. She has been Chair since July 2017.

Juliet says, “I feel very privileged to join the team at Read NZ Te Pou Muramura, the work they do to engage readers, especially young readers is vital and inspiring. Whilst I am sorry to be leaving Vic Books, I leave in good heart and am grateful for all that I have learnt and am immensely proud of what I and the team have achieved.

Booksellers NZ Deputy Chair Jenna Todd says, “We are thrilled that Juliet’s huge commitment to books and reading in New Zealand has been recognised with this vital role and we are sure that – not least because Booksellers and Read NZ share an office – she won’t be lost to the world of bookselling.”
