Mrs Blackwell the Champion of the Ockhams Champions
Engaging video content, author interviews and a captivating window display lit 24/7 saw industry newcomer Mrs Blackwell's Village Bookshop in Greytown selected as the champion of the Ockhams Champions in a campaign created to promote the Booksellers Aotearoa New Zealand Award for Illustrated Non-Fiction finalists in the 2021 Ockhams New Zealand Book Awards.
After a successful Ockhams Fiction Champions campaign in 2020, this year the New Zealand Book Awards Trust put out the challenge to six nominated booksellers or bookshop teams around the motu, to hand-sell and promote the four Illustrated Non-Fiction finalist books, to celebrate Booksellers NZ coming on board as the new sponsor of this category.
In the South Island teams from University Bookshop Otago in Dunedin and Scorpio Books in Christchurch took up the challenge. In the North Island, Mrs Blackwell's Village Bookshop in Greytown was joined by Tawa Books and Post in Wellington, Books a Plenty in Tauranga, and Unity Books in Auckland, represented by Kelly Gordon. They all did a terrific job, making the choice of an overall champion and runner-up a difficult one. The team at Scorpio Books took second place, with their radio podcasts, advertising in the Press and video reviews also impressing the judges.
