New LIANZA Executive Director
LIANZA President, Louise LaHatte, is pleased to announce the appointment of Ana Pickering as the new LIANZA Executive Director.
Ana brings to LIANZA not only many years’ experience leading and growing a not-for-profit member organisation, but also enormous commitment and energy for working in a field that makes a difference to community well-being and social outcomes.
She is calm, confident, articulate and enthusiastic, all critical success factors in this role where relationships with members, stakeholders, related sectors & decision makers are the key to the achievement of our goals. Ana’s energy and enthusiasm for learning is infectious, and it is clear that she can operate on both a strategic and practical level, and be able to follow up on progress of other people’s commitments firmly and diplomatically. Her understanding of the challenges of the library and information field is already perceptive and I look forward to working with her.
Ana comes to us from the Open Polytechnic, where she has held several roles, most recently as Acting Head of School of Science, Technology and Engineering. Prior to that Ana was Executive Officer for Montessori Aoteaora New Zealand for 13 years, and previously an early childhood teacher and a horticultural scientist.
Ana will take up her position on January 29th 2018.
She replaces Joanna Matthew who is heading overseas to Singapore for new opportunities.
Joanna has made a huge contribution to our field and to LIANZA. She is dedicated, organised, intelligent, articulate, strategic, tactical, and fun. Her influence with key stakeholders has enhanced LIANZA’s reputation, and she has grown the collaboration and partnerships LIANZA has with related sectors and education providers to achieve a wider range of professional development opportunities for our members.
Her part in the bid to host IFLA’s World Library and Information Congress in 2020 has been critical to our success to date. Working with a changing Council membership and with thousands of volunteers has particular challenges – Joanna has brought her vision, drive, perspective and flexibility to overcome these. We wish her all the best in lucky old Singapore.
Joanna's last day will be Friday 9th February, allowing time for a handover, and we will be holding a farewell in Wellington on February 21st.
