11:00 am - Meet Australian author Jessica Townsend, author of global hit Nevermoor. We are looking forward to a magical hour with Jessica as she reads from and talks about the book- and signs copies for those lucky enough to buy one! The publication rights for the book were hotly contested, and this will be the first stop for Jessica on a 6 month world publicity tour.
2:00 pm - Kiwicorn and Kuwi's Kitchen Book Launch with author/illustrator Kat Merewether. 'Kuwi's Kitchen' is that perfect first cookbook for kiwi kids with lots of easy-to-make delicious and nutritious recipes. The second book 'Kiwicorn' is about a little creature who is strong, sassy and smart and not afraid to be herself. 'Kiwicorn' celebrates life and encourages little people to be confident and positive too. There'll be readings, treats and music with kid's singer Chanelle.

Messines will be celebrating New Zealand Bookshop day with a demonstration from 11am of the popular activity of war gaming with Warren Hart, Andrew and Mark Stanton, all very experienced and well known national wargamers of many years. Andrew in particular is also a multiple prize winning painter of miniatures at various tournaments. Both Andrew and Mark are members of the Hutt Valley Wargaming club and both have been play testers for many years for Flames of War. The two games they will be demonstrating are Saga, a 28mm Viking Skirmish game, and Congo, a 28 mm game set in Africa involving wild animals, native Africans and white colonisers.

Take Note Tawa is celebrating all month with 'Your Book Pick & Purchase Competition'. You can go into a draw to win by filling in an entry card telling us why you picked and purchased the book (one entry per book purchased). This will be drawn on Saturday 28th October at close of business. The competition runs along aside the 'Love Your Bookshop competition' at our store.
NZ Bookshop Day is also the Tawa community day, called Spring into Tawa 2017. Come in-store that day and chat to our staff, who will be celebrating all dressed up in book/character themes. We have a prize draw for correct entries, which must include at least one correct book or character.

Millwood Gallery is hosting Stephen Daisley at 3:30 pm, a special opportunity to hear the current Creative New Zealand Randell Cottage Writing Fellow read. In 2016 Stephen won the inaugural Ockham Book Award for Fiction with his novel Coming Rain and, in Australia, Stephen won the Prime Minister's Literary Award for Fiction for his first novel Traitor.
