Booksellers Conference Scholarships

2025 Booksellers Conference, 18-20 July, Auckland  

SUMMARY 

There is still 1 scholarships available for the 2025 Booksellers Conference.

This scholarship covers registration and accommodation only and has been donated by a bookseller who wishes to remain anonymous, with accommodation sponsored by Booksellers. This scholarship is intended for a bookseller who wishes to attend but does not have the means to do so because of financial difficulties.

IMPORTANT DATES 

  • The scholarships is open to employees of bookstores that are paid-up members of Booksellers NZ.
  • You can nominate a bookseller or self-nominate.
  • Deadline (5pm, Friday 13 June ) for scholarship applications is firm; no exceptions.

PURPOSE 

The scholarships are for Aotearoa New Zealand booksellers to attend the 2025 Booksellers Conference in Auckland, 18-20 July.

BENEFITS 

The Booksellers Conference is the number one opportunity for business development and professional development. The Conference is a highly rated annual event providing unmatched opportunities to meet peers, publishers and authors. These scholarships have a focus on developing the business skills of booksellers and engaging them in the latest trends in retailing, publishing, technology, marketing and business practice.  

CRITERIA 

  • The Booksellers Scholarships are only open only to employees of bookstores that are paid-up members of Booksellers Aotearoa NZ.  
  • Members of the Booksellers Board may not enter.
  • The successful Booksellers Scholarship (Scholarship #1) recipient agrees to share their experience in an article for The Read.  
  • All nominations are to be received and processed by Booksellers Aotearoa NZ.  
  • The applicants agree to continue working for their current employer for at least 12 months following their return. This clause is at the discretion of the employer. If the employer and nominee have agreed to waive this condition, the employer should note it in their letter of support. 

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE 

Covered by Scholarship #2 – The Hardship Scholarship

Registration to the Conference, Salon, Trade Day and 2 nights accommodation. This scholarship is generously provided by an anonymous bookseller so that the value and experience can be shared by a bookseller who otherwise doesn’t have the means to attend the conference. (Flights, travel insurance and the Book Industry Awards are not included.)

Covered by successful candidates  

  • Successful candidate to pay for travel and their own personal incidentals over the weekend.

SELECTION PROCESS 

Selection of scholars is to be carried out by a panel of judges. Selections will be based on whom the panel feels would benefit most from the training and development opportunities at the Booksellers Conference.
