Communications and Engagement Manager

About the role

This is a hands-on role for someone proactive, adaptable, and driven. You’ll work closely with the Chief Executive and our small team to disseminate key messages, promote our work, grow audiences and engage with our members and stakeholders effectively.

This is a part time (24 hours/wk), permanent position, based in the Wellington CBD with flexible options to combine WFH and office.

What you’ll do

  • Lead the strategy and delivery of integrated communications activity across our organisation, including website, social media, EDMs, print publications, collaterals, and media liaison
  • Lead or assist with the delivery of programmes, events and activities that align with our goals
  • Work with the Marketing/Fundraising Manager to support our fundraising and membership strategies by delivering effective communications
  • Work with the Chief Executive to lead Government Relations activity as appropriate, including submissions, Ministerial Briefings, or other correspondence
  • Develop and maintain strong partnerships with stakeholders to deliver shared projects and joint promotions

What we’re looking for  

  • Five+ years in a similar position in communications, social media management, PR or advocacy
  • Strong written skills and the ability to tailor messaging for different audiences
  • Confidence in managing social media channels and creating digital content, including basic design and video editing
  • Proficiency with website management and digital marketing tools, including the ability to quickly learn bespoke software
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Relevant qualification in communications, marketing, media, or similar. Experience in values-based or not-for-profit communications is a bonus
  • A personal and professional commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and to uplifting te reo Māori and Mātauranga Māori through your work
  • Someone who will bring balance, humour, a can-do attitude and an open mind to our team, as well as passion and enthusiasm for the work at hand.
