2024 Booksellers Aotearoa Scholarship to BookPeople Centenary Conference (Melbourne)

Applications for the 2024 BookPeople Scholarship have now closed.

Booksellers Aotearoa invites members and staff of member stores to apply for this year’s scholarship to attend the 2024 BookPeople Centenary Conference & Trade Exhibition.

BookPeople is the new name for the Australian Booksellers Association. Booksellers Aotearoa NZ is offering a single scholarship to their conference in Melbourne on 15-17 June. We will cover all travel costs to and from Melbourne, accommodation, per diems and also help make arrangements for the successful scholar to intern for a few days at a Melbourne bookshop. 

The conference will take place at the Pullman on the Park. 

Applications open at 9am on Friday 15 March and close at 5pm on Friday 5th April.

SUMMARY

1. The Booksellers Scholarship is open only to employees of bookstores that are paid-up members of Booksellers Aotearoa.
2. Booksellers with at least two years’ experience, in permanent, full-time employment are eligible to apply for the scholarship.
3. Deadline (5pm, Friday 5 April 2024) for scholarship applications; no exceptions. 
4. Successful scholars agree to prepare a detailed report by the end of July 2024 for circulation through The Read.
5. Successful scholars agree to attend the annual Booksellers Aotearoa NZ conference in August 2024 to present to members on their experience (scholars to pay own flights, accommodation and conference registration).
6. All nominations are to be received and processed by Booksellers Aotearoa, acting as the secretariat to the scheme.
7. The applicant agrees to continue working for their current employer for at least 12 months following their return. This clause is at the discretion of employer. If the employer and nominee have reached agreement to waive this condition, the employer should note it in their letter of support.

IMPORTANT DATES

PURPOSE

The scholarship is for one New Zealand bookseller to attend the 2024 BookPeople conference and to intern for three days in a Melbourne bookstore. The scholarship includes conference registration, travel and accommodation in Australia as well as per diems.

In 2024, the conference will be held from 15-17 June. The internship in a bookstore will follow the conference (specifics to be confirmed).
