Smith's Bookshop
Smith's Bookshop was established by AD Smith in 1894. For many years its home was at 133 Manchester Street however following the Christchurch earthquakes it moved to the Tannery, in Christchurch, New Zealand, where it continues to remain a fully independent bookshop specialising in New Zealand books. We have a carefully curated collection of new books, second-hand books, ephemera, magazines, and art supplies available both in-store and online.
While we carry a full range of international titles and a variety of children's books, both new and used, we specialise in rare and out-of-print books featuring all things New Zealand including History, Maori-related subjects, the Arts, Flora & Fauna, Sports, Farming & Gardening, Travel, Fishing & Hunting. We take pride in helping source hard-to-find titles.
Smith's is also home to Cadsonbury Publications, a press that specialises in publishing out-of-print New Zealand history books. Currently, there are 127 books listed and available.
We are open 7 days a week 10am - 5pm.
