The Women's Bookshop

Established in 1989, The Women’s Bookshop is the local bookshop in Ponsonby Road, a staple in a vibrant area with a thriving bar and cafe scene, as well as many specialty shops. Our purpose has always been to promote women's writing and to provide books reflecting women's diverse lives and interests. There are many male customers and we welcome them. We also have a large section dedicated to LGBTQIA+ books, authors, and readers. The booksellers at The Women's Bookshop are renowned for their passion for books and their personal service. This includes fast, efficient postage NZ-wide, and a commitment to sourcing special orders for our customers. We host frequent events, book launches and author signings in the shop as well as running bookstalls at off-site events such as the Auckland Writers Festival. Our annual Ladies’ Litera-Tea, with a line-up of 12 NZ women authors, sells out every year. The 200+ audience enjoy an afternoon of bookish talks, treats and tea. We are also much more than a bookshop. We are a community resource providing services and a friendly inviting space where women can meet. We love books by, for, and about women and are dedicated to providing a safe space for them to be celebrated. Open seven days. Monday to Friday 9am to 6pm and Saturday and Sunday 10am to 5pm. Online Shopping always open.
