Kia ora! We are Alphabet Book Club! We are an online bookstore in Aotearoa, selling books and products with positive and/or honest LGBTQIA+ representation.
Alphabet Book Club was founded by our Book Master, Chelsea, with the support of their wife and Book Peddler, Theresa, and their fur monster Remus!
As Book Master, Chelsea (they/them) reads every title we hold in stock so they are able to answer any questions our customers have about appropriateness for gift giving and reading age. It also means that we intimately understand the representation in the books we have in store, and so they always have a good recommendation.
As Book Peddler, Theresa (she/her) takes all of Chelsea’s requests for stock and she goes out to the world to find them. She also manages the business and all things financial.
Rems, our corgi, generally gets in the way, steals packing peanuts and alerts us when the courier arrives. Also featured sometimes is our marketing intern Frank, the lab, who joins us from time to time. They are both very good boys.
We launched in November 2021, having used the 2020 life disruption to form our dream company – we wanted our community, particularly rangatahi, to be able to gain access to incredible stories that reflect who and how we are easily, quickly and affordably. We are currently operating out of our spare room and attend events and markets that are safe and supportive for Queer kiwis.
2024 is the year of sequels from incredible queer stories! This last week, we have had the phenomenal sequel to the post-apocalyptic adventure that is All That’s Left In The World by Erik J. Brown. The book is called The Only Light Left Burning and is an excellent sequel. We get adventure, love, friendship, revenge, a whole lot of character growth and most importantly the answers to all the loose ends.
