Anec.dote is finally more than a long held dream, with our doors officially opening for everyone on Saturday November 8th at 587a Mt Eden Road.

Don, the shops owner, says “I have always had a fascination for books, maps, art and objects that tell the unique stories of our amazing country, its natural and cultural history, stunning landscapes, people, places and heritage. What started as a hobby for collecting, grew over the years into the concept to develop a special place, a home, where others can also come in to share stories, meet and mix and to protect and pass on their own precious taonga to a new generation of guardians”.
Anec.dote is first and foremost a destination book store that celebrates Aotearoa New Zealand. Our books are old, rare and new, But Anec.dote is also a little different. There is an art gallery, a lovely fire side resting and chatting spot, and ephemera displays more emblematic of a museum. Don, who has a background as an environmental planner and is totally new to retailing, loves to chat to people about their own books and artefacts and his mission is to offer visitors and customers help with finding options for understanding, saving or selling their own collections or may be just to help with hunting down a special gift, new or pre-loved, with real meaning to buy for loved one.
Grace, our Assistant Shop Manager brings a real creative touch to Anec.dote. A history graduate from Auckland University, Grace is an emerging artist herself who shares a passion for books, art and objects that bring our history and culture to life.
The team at Anec.dote look forward to seeing you all soon.
