The Ink Pot opens in Ōtepoti

The romance reading community of Ōtepoti Dunedin came out in full force to celebrate the opening of The Ink Pot on Saturday 21 February. Two hours before opening, there were already excited readers camped out on the footpath – books and coffee in hand – ready for the doors to open for the first time.

Owner, Colette Palmer – who writes romance novels under the pen name Colette Rhodes – and the rest of the team at The Ink Pot have been blown away by the support. “While I always felt like there was a real gap in the Dunedin market for something like this, especially the book clubs and other social aspects of it, I wasn’t sure what the demand would be like until we announced the project and started getting messages from the community.”

“The Ink Pot is a small space, but we have big dreams for it. We’d like to offer a range of interesting and diverse romance titles, especially the ones that are harder to find here in Aotearoa. We’d also like to function as a bit of a third space for readers and writers alike. There’s a writing corner set up for people to come and work on their manuscripts if they need a change of scenery, and we’re running a combination of free and paid book clubs. Hopefully, there will be more bookish events on the horizon – watch this space!”

You can visit The Ink Pot in-person at 19 St Andrew Street, Dunedin, or online at www.theinkpot.co.nz
